Wonderful Untouched Original Confederate Wood Drum Canteen

This is a wonderful artifact!!! It is an original Confederate soldiers canteen. This is the style that is made of wood and referred to by collectors as the "Wood Drum" canteen. This is finely crafted as you can see. It measures 7 inches across and is 2-7/8th inches thick which is nice and thick. It is the version that is held together by very thick iron band that have a gorgeous untouched look all the way around. This one as all the original three strap loops intact. The original wooden spout is missing as is often the case. This happens when the wood dries out from not being used and then it falls out. But the best part about this canteen is that the soldier replaced the original wooden spout with a pewter spout from a Union canteen. He held it in place with a hand shaped piece of tin. What a wonderful bit of Southern ingenuity. This has a great look all over and will make a great conversation piece, and a great addition to your collection.
